Registered Nurse Qualifications
Nursing is a career that some people dream of doing since they were childern and grow up to follow their dreams. Many times you will hear someone say ” I always knew I wanted to be a nurse.” This person is very comfortable being a caregiver and feels comfortable comforting those who need attention when not at their best. In recent years making a decision to be a nurse is more and more becoming a decision for people who have traveled farther down the career road and have decided to make a career change to something more rewarding than their previous job choice. Lets take a look at your stepping stones to your career as a registered nurse.
The first step to being a registered nurse is graduating from high school. This will require good grades and probably some course work. the next step is to earn a degree. This should be an R.N. degree that has been approved by your state board of Nursing. After you have earned your degree you will have to complete a clinical experience. This would be experience in different hospital departments such as labor and delivery, ambulatory, or I.C.U. After you have completed your clinical experience your next step is to secure a license .States vary on their requirements but all states require an exam called the National Council License Examination of Registered Nurses. Licenses have to be renewed and this usually requires some continuing education After you secure your license you may want to continue on for a specialized area. This will increase your hiring potential and chances for advancement. Good evaluations and assessments of your work ethics will result in promotions for you that will be rewarding to your future as a registered nurse.
Keep in mind that there are also hospital positions that will offer tuition reimbursement programs to work on furthering your education.
